RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A fight broke out between 70-80 cadets at Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy Wednesday evening, with 55 police units responding to the scene.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the Rantoul Police Department received a report of large fight involving 70-80 cadets at Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy in Rantoul. According to Rantoul’s Chief of Police, Anthony Brown, Rantoul officers responded to the scene and immediately requested units from outside agencies.
“I think we had officers from every department in the county respond and assist us with that. It probably took an hour to get the building under control and all the cadets where they needed to be,” Brown said.
According to Brown, the department has detained at lease six-eight cadets at this point. In addition, a couple were transported to the hospital for injuries. Brown also confirmed that there were no deaths as a result of the incident.
The situation is currently being “sorted out,” and video cameras and other footage are being reviewed to see who the instigators were and who may have committed crimes.
One Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy spokesperson provided the following statement to WCIA on the situation:
“Our number one priority is the safety of our students and their families.”
