Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.) on Wednesday commented further on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) leadership, a day after he discussed “a new leader” for Senate Democrats.

“So, yes or no, you want him — you want him to step down?” NewsNation’s Blake Burman asked on “The Hill.”

“I mean, we’ll see. I want to hear what he says about what he’s planning on doing going forward… But, you know, Friday was a disaster,” Ivey replied, appearing to reference Schumer voting to advance a Republican-crafted funding bill last week.

On Tuesday, Ivey said he has “respect” for Schumer, adding that “he had a great, long-standing career.”

“But I’m afraid it may be time for Senate Democrats to choose a new leader,” he added during a town hall.

Many Democrats have expressed disappointment over Schumer voting to advance the funding bill, and some of his Senate colleagues have recently questioned his decision making in a way that they have not since the start of his leadership.

“We need to get on the same page, and — and have a strategy in the House and the Senate, that’s coordinated and effective, and we didn’t have that last week,” Ivey said of his party on Wednesday.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) told NBC’s Kristen Welker last weekend that he “still” backed “Senator Schumer as leader.” However, he also said he believed “the only way that we are going to be effective as a caucus is if we change our tactics.”

“And we have to have a conversation inside our caucus to make sure that we are going to do that,” Murphy added.

The Hill has reached out to Schumer’s office for comment.
