LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man who faced the death penalty pleaded guilty to murdering an elderly couple and stealing their money, affiliate KLAS investigators have learned.

Prosecutors said Robert Dunn, 62, hid the bodies in a Las Vegas storage unit for more than a decade while he lived off of the victims’ Social Security benefits.

The Clark County District Attorney’s office filed an amended indictment Wednesday for fifteen charges including two counts of murder of a victim age 60 or older, two counts of robbery of a victim age 60 or older, and eleven counts of theft.

Dunn will no longer face the death penalty as a result of the plea deal, but could face life in prison.

The victims, Joaquin Sierra, 86, and Eleanor Sierra, 82, were last seen in 2003. Their bodies were found with kitty litter and concrete in duct-taped garbage cans in the storage unit in 2014.

Dunn met the couple in California and had convinced them to move to Nevada with him, according to prosecutors. Loved ones of Joaquin and Eleanor Sierra tried to intervene to save the couple from Dunn before they disappeared.

A Clark County grand jury initially indicted Dunn in 2015. He has remained in jail without bail.

District Court Judge Carli Kierny is scheduled to sentence Dunn on April 29.
