CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man has been arrested and charged in connection to a reported church burglary in Carter County.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced Thursday that Douglas Lee Shaver, 36, of Elizabethton, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Theft of property
  • Burglary
  • Attempted burglary of a motor vehicle

According to the CCSO, Shaver was arrested after an investigation began into an early Tuesday break-in at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Hampton.

When a church representative found the break-in had occurred, surveillance footage was reviewed. In security footage, a man could be seen driving in the parking lot and attempting to enter another vehicle. He then could be seen prying open the door to an outside shed and taking several tools and other items.

Shaver was developed as a suspect and found by deputies in Hampton on Thursday. He was arrested and transported to the Carter County Detention Center.

As of Thursday afternoon, Shaver was being held on a $30,000 bond.
