Orlando police arrest woman accused of drowning her dog in the airport restroom after being told she couldn’t fly with the pet due to missing paperwork.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A woman was arrested after police said she drowned her dog in an Orlando International Airport bathroom after being told the pet couldn’t join her on her flight, according to court documents obtained by NBC affiliate WESH 2 News.

According to police, LATAM Airlines wouldn’t allow Alison Lawrence to board her flight with her dog, a 9-year-old miniature schnauzer, because she didn’t have the necessary paperwork.

Lawrence is then “believed to have taken extreme and tragic action by killing the dog,” an Orlando police detective wrote in a court document.

The woman was attempting to board her flight to South America, but when she was told her dog, Tywinn, couldn’t join her, she was seen on airport security footage make her way to terminal B. She then took her dog into a women’s restroom, police said.

Documents show an airport employee told police she saw Lawrence “on her knees cleaning up a lot of water and a lot of dog food from the floor of the bathroom handicapped stall.”

When the employee returned to the restroom 20 minutes later, she saw the suspect leave and found the dog dead inside a trash bag, according to police. It was determined that Tywinn’s death was from drowning.

Security footage later shows Lawrence sitting at her gate without her dog, and she boarded her flight to South America.

It was discovered the dog was microchipped and registered to an owner named “Alison Holt,” which investigators said was one of three last names used by Lawrence.

Lake County Jail records show Lawrence posted her $5,000 bond on Tuesday, WESH reported.
