A Kansas man was arrested this week and charged with raping a Walmart customer after telling her he was a security guard and leading her to a restroom at the back of the store.

Justin Metz, 42, is charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery, kidnapping, and theft, WDAF reported.

Atchison Police said the investigation began on March 9 when a woman reported that she had been raped at a Walmart in the city. She said she was leaving the store late that day when a man approached, said he was “an asset protection officer” with the store, and took her to the back restroom, where he raped her.

Police determined, presumably by talking with actual store employees, that he was not an employee. A week later, they received a report that the man was again in the store, so they went back and arrested him.

Police did not say if they had identified him before or after his arrest.

Metz was in the Atchison County jail as of Tuesday with no court date set.

Walmart said in a statement that it “acted swiftly to engage law enforcement” and deferred to police for further information.
