Two people have been arrested after a car and an allegedly stolen caravan crashed while attempting to overtake a police car in the Adelaide Hills overnight.

The incident occurred shortly after police had been pursuing an allegedly stolen Nissan Patrol 4WD driving east on Callington Road.

As officers followed the Nissan, a second car, a Great Wall station wagon towing a caravan, overtook the police car, sideswiping it as it passed.

The crash occured early in the morning. (Nine)

The station wagon and caravan lost control and crashed on Callington Road at Woodchester, with the male driver fleeing the scene on foot.

Both officers inside the vehicle were not injured.

Images from the scene show the horrific crash, which crushed the caravan and left a small dog shaking.

A 35-year-old Wellington man returned to the scene soon after and was arrested.

He will face numerous charges including endangering life, driving disqualified and illegal use of a motor vehicle.

Police said the caravan had been stolen from Mount Compass.

The Nissan allegedly drove off but later returned to the scene, where a 30-year-old woman from Murray Bridge was also arrested.

Police allege the Nissan was stolen from home in Finniss about 2.20am.

The woman has also been charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, breach of bail and driving unlicenced.

Both people have been refused bail to appear in court on Monday.
