Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said the thefts didn’t just hurt businesses across Florida, but impacted families, employees and construction projects.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is behind bars after police in Tampa recovered a stolen dump truck from Jacksonville and discovered seven others reported stolen on Tuesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced in a post on its Facebook page Wednesday.
Olansy Marrero, 40, faces multiple felony charges, including grand theft and operating a “chop shop.”
On Tuesday, HCSO detectives found the stolen dump truck at a business in the 4700 block of North Hubert Avenue in Tampa, according to the post. The truck was stolen out of Duval County.
The sheriff’s office said it spotted Marrero “altering the dump truck’s VINs.”
A search warrant was then obtained by detectives, and a search of the property and surrounding properties revealed eight total stolen dump trucks, according to HCSO.
“These thefts didn’t just hurt business owners from across Florida and the Southeast, but they impacted families, employees, and construction projects,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the post. “We’re committed to those who help build up our community and will come after anyone who tries to tear it down through theft and illegal operations.”
