A 35-year-old North Carolina man has been charged with the murders of three men in a house in Clarkton, and police say he called 911, claiming to be someone else, blind, and having been shot.

Bladen County deputies said they were called at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday after receiving a 911 call about someone being shot.

Later — after the sheriff’s department charged Kevin Musser with the stabbing deaths of 62-year-old Daniel Dennis, 54-year-old Randy Benton, and 32-year-old Phillip Palmer — they said it was Musser himself who called 911, identifying himself as “Randy” and saying he’d been shot, WECT reported.

The dispatcher asked what kind of firearm he’d been shot with, and Musser replied he didn’t know. Musser claimed everyone in the house had been shot and was dead, telling the dispatcher the shooter was “beyond help.” He also said he didn’t know where the shooter had been hit because “I’m blind.” It’s not clear if that’s true — especially given that the victims were all stabbed to death with multiple stab wounds and not shot.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they said they encountered Musser at the front door, where he was wearing bloody clothing and carrying a handgun. He shut the door and ran out the back door, where deputies found him.

He was airlifted to a hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment of life-threatening injuries, but police did not say what kind of injuries he had. He was booked into the Bladen County jail upon release.

Musser is charged with three counts of murder, stealing the wallet of one of the victims, and possession of methamphetamine.

The sheriff’s office declined to answer any questions or provide any kind of detail about the crimes.

Musser is being held without bond and has an April 3 court date.
