Donald Trump has savaged an artist for painting an ‘unflattering’ portrait of him which is hanging in the Colorado State Capitol.

‘Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves,’ Trump said on TruthSocial on Sunday night.

‘But the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor… was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before.’

Trump said the artist behind the portrait, Sarah Boardman, also painted Obama during his stint in the White House, and managed to do a successful job.

‘He looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst,’ Trump wrote.

‘She must have lost her talent as she got older. In any event, I would much prefer not having a picture than having this one.’

Trump claimed ‘many people from Colorado have called and written to complain’ about the unflattering artwork.

‘They are actually angry about it! I am speaking on their behalf to the Radical Left Governor, Jared Polis, who is extremely weak on Crime, in particular with respect to Tren de Aragua, which practically took over Aurora (Don’t worry, we saved it!), to take it down.

‘Jared should be ashamed of himself.’

The portrait was first unveiled in 2019 during Trump’s first stint in the White House, so it is unclear what sparked his Sunday night complaint on social media.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Boardman.

Back when the portrait was first unveiled in August 2019, Boardman shared pictures of her work on her professional Facebook page, hailing the ‘great day.’

‘The unveiling of the 45th President in the Gallery of Presidents, Rotunda, Denver State Capitol building,’ she wrote.

‘Thank you to all the dignitaries, staff, donors and visitors who attended and made this a wonderful event! Thank You, I appreciate you all more than you know. Feeling Very Grateful.

‘Please remain respectful – this is about portraiture, not politics.’

Polis was elected as the Democrat Governor in 2019. Colorado has been ravaged by spiraling crime and the arrival of Tren de Aragua, who famously infiltrated the town of Aurora.

The Trump administration in February designated Tren de Aragua, the Sinaloa Cartel and six other criminal groups as global terrorist organisations.

Trump last week invoked the wartime Alien Enemies Act of 1798, declaring that the US was facing an ‘invasion’ from a criminal organization that has been linked to kidnapping, extortion, organized crime and contract killings.

In doing so, he was able to deport more than 200 suspected gang members to El Salvador, where they were placed in the nation’s most notorious prison.

There, the suspected gang members will now spend 23 and a half hours locked in overcrowded cells, with just 30 minutes to stretch – chained in the middle of the hallway.

It had been invoked only three times before during major international conflicts.

Its most recent application was during World War II, when it was used to incarcerate Germans and Italians as well as for the mass internment of around 120,000 Japanese and Japanese-American civilians.

The act was also used during World War I and the War of 1812.

Trump claimed he is justified in invoking the act to deport Tren de Aragua members who were terrorizing American communities.

He said Tren de Aragua is ‘conducting irregular warfare against the territory of the United States both directly and at the direction, clandestine or otherwise, of the Maduro regime.’

This is a breaking news story. More to come.
