The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs has a successful career in TV and film – but what do we know about his life outside of acting? Starring as Timothy Ratliff in the third season of the HBO hit series, his character is wanted by the FBI for illegal financial dealings and will likely end up in prison.

He’s a memorable character, especially for one particular scene, but he’s got people talking throughout the latest series. The 61-year-old actor is widely known for playing Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter, Georgy Zhukov in The Death of Stalin, Captain Gabriel Lorca in the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Discovery and The Curse of Steptoe.

Beyond his acting career, the star leads a quiet life in London with his family. But what else do we know about his life beyond TV and film? 

Jason Isaacs previously revealed that he had achieved sobriety after struggling with a drug and alcohol addiction for over two decades.

The 61-year-old opened up about his addiction on Rob Brydon’s Brydon & podcast. Reflecting on his life before getting sober from drugs and alcohol, Jason said he relied on drugs because he felt ‘uncomfortable’ in his own skin.

He said: “I liked being out of it, it was fun at first because it made me feel less other.

“I always felt uncomfortable in my own skin, I always felt as if I was faking being with people, that they all seemed to be more comfortable.

“When we were all high, or drunk, or whatever it was, we were all in the same state, it was an equalizer. And I loved the equalizer.”

When asked how long he was addicted for, he said: “Oh for decades. Not only didn’t it get in the way of work, I was working at a very high level, on stage and on camera – my career was great.

“It was the personal life that wasn’t great. I haven’t taken drugs for 25 years. It’s one of those professions, it may be less tolerant now, I don’t see it now.”

Jason Isaacs managed to kick his addiction and explained that in recovery, he has learned to find “simple happiness in simple things.”

Jason Isaacs is currently married to former documentary filmmaker Emma Hewitt after they tied the knot in 2001. They first met while studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in the late 1980s. 

They have two daughters together, namely Lily and Ruby, who were born in 2002 and 2005, respectively. 

Emma Hewitt previously worked on Soldier Soldier, Jeeves and Wooster, Summer’s Lease, Casualty and other British TV shows. 

Jason Isaacs lives in a home close to Queen’s Park, in north west London with his family. He has owned the property for more than 40 years, according to media reports. 

Jason Isaacs has also owned property in Los Angeles. 

In his spare time, Jason Isaacs enjoys browsing local car boot sales with his two daughters, visiting Starbucks or watching a film at his local cinema.
