A 51-year-old California man has been charged with the murders of his elderly parents.

Indio Police said they were asked to conduct a welfare check on the elderly couple, both 84, but were unable to contact anyone at the home, KTLA said.

Continuing their investigation, they went to a second address, but did not say who’s home that was, and spoke with a man inside. That encounter quickly became a standoff when he refused to come outside.

Officers went back to the initial home and made a forced entry, finding the couple dead inside.

A SWAT team was called to the second home, and after several hours, the man inside finally came out. Police identified him as Kevin James Reddy and booked him on second degree murder charges for the deaths of his parents, whose names have not been released.

No further information was released.

Reddy is being held on a $1 million bail and is due in court Wednesday morning.
