A Kansas state trooper rescued a kidnapped 6-year-old girl and arrested two men, including the man charged with kidnapping her.

The Kansas Highway Patrol did not say when the arrest took place or where in Kansas but said the little girl had been kidnapped in another state, which they also did not identify, a month earlier.

The trooper stopped the SUV the group was in for a traffic violation and discovered that the man in the passenger seat had a warrant for his arrest for kidnapping. A girl in the back seat appeared about 6 years old but initially gave the troooper a fake name and birth date “after having been coached to do so, in an attempt to keep the adult out of jail.”

The girl eventually gave the trooper her real name, and it matched the kidnapping victim.

The passenger and driver of the SUV were both taken into custody, but the highway patrol did not say on what charges. The driver, the agency said, “had a criminal history to include homicide and numerous weapons violations over the years.” Both men were in their 60s, the agency said.

The little girl was not physically harmed. The highway patrol did not say if she was checked out at a hospital or had been returned to her family.
