Fans Accuse Elizabeth Olsen Of “Lying” After She Denied ‘Avengers’ Return: She’s “Literally A Great Liar”

Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is why fans find it hard to believe the actress when she claims Wanda will not be returning for the upcoming Avengers films.

Olsen confirmed that she will not be in London to film Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars with Joe and Anthony Russo. The actress clarified she’s back in the United States, where she will soon film a pilot for the new FX series, Seven Sisters, amongst other solo projects.

But Marvel fans aren’t buying it. Several fans on social media are accusing Olsen of “lying,” pointing out that the Scarlet Witch plays a major role in the films.

“Marvel actors are not supposed to say anything abt their characters and Elizabeth Olsen is literally a great liar like (iykyk) so let’s chill…,” one fan wrote in Olsen’s defense. Others pointed out that “Marvel actors lying is not uncommon.”

And, as many have pointed out since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, “Elizabeth Olsen saying Wanda died in multiverse of madness but i didn’t see any body.”

After Avengers: Endgame, Olsen’s Scarlet Witch found new life in the Emmy-winning series WandaVision in 2021. She has since reprised the role in the Disney+ series What If…? and Marvel Zombies.

The actress has said she would be open to returning to the franchise for the correct storyline.

“It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well within Age of Ultron,” Olsen said during an appearance on Dublin radio outlet FM104 in September 2024. “And then, I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there.”

She added, “If there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back, however they can make that make sense.”

But Marvel boss Kevin Feige gave fans some major hope recently.

“We had Agatha Forever on Disney+ just now, and that series was great for us,” he said late last year, per IGN. “Since then, there have been a lot of questions about Wanda on fans’ minds… So all I can say is that we’re excited to find out when and how the Scarlet Witch might return.”

Chances are fans won’t know if Scarlet Witch will be in the new Avengers films until they’re seated in the movie theater.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to premiere in 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to premiere in 2027.
