Springfield Police Seek Public’s Help to Solve Store Burglary via Crime Stoppers Tips

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department and Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers are asking for help in solving a burglary at a convivence store earlier this month.

It happened at Veterans Grocery & Tobacco, 1050 West North Grand Ave., the morning of March 9. Officers responded to the business at 4 a.m. for an alarm going off and they found the rear door of the business forced open.

The suspect was able to flee before police arrived, but not before he stole several hundreds of dollars in cash and several packs of cigarettes.

The suspect was captured on security cameras inside the business. He was a Black male wearing a black hoodie, pants, a mask, and black shoes with white striping on the bottom.

Photos of the suspect are not readily available at this time.

Anyone who has information on this crime, such as the suspect’s identity, is asked to submit their knowledge to Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 217-788-8427, visiting Crime Stoppers’ website or using the P3 Tips app.

Any tip that results in an arrest will be rewarded with up to $2,500 in cash.
