A DOCTOR has been arrested for allegedly trying to shove his wife off a cliff and bashing her in the head with a rock because she wouldn’t take a photo with him.

A manhunt was launched for anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig after the attack at a tourist hotspot, which features a 1,000-foot cliff overlooking the ocean.

Gerhardt Konig, 46, was on an idyllic trip to Oahu, Hawaii, to celebrate his wife Arielle’s 36th birthday when things took a dark turn.

The doctor allegedly attempted to push his wife off a hiking trail and hit her in the head with a rock on Monday morning.

The couple was hiking the Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout, which is nestled over 1,000-feet above the coastline, local CBS affiliate KDKA reported.

His wife was taken to a hospital in critical condition where she told investigators that her husband was responsible for the injuries.

Cops reported that the attack happened after she refused to take a picture with her husband.

Medical professionals confirmed that they treated the 36-year-old for head and facial injuries, CNN reported.

The doctor went missing following the reported assault, leading police to ask citizens to watch out for him.

Law enforcement posted the doctor’s photo all around the city, informing citizens that the doctor was wanted for attempted murder.

They quickly caught him on Monday evening and said Konig was taken into custody, and charges are pending.

Police confirmed the arrest on Tuesday morning: “HPD officers located Gerhardt Konig near Pali Highway and arrested him after a brief foot pursuit. Charges are pending. Mahalo to the public for your assistance.”

The couple reportedly live in a house in Maui, where Gerhardt works as an independent contractor for Maui Health.

“Maui Health is committed to patient safety and upholding the highest standards of care,” the company told local NBC affiliate KHON.

“We have been made aware of the allegations against Gerhardt Konig, MD. Dr. Konig has been suspended from the Medical Staff pending investigation.”

As of Tuesday, the doctor’s Hawaii medical license, which he got in 2022, remains in good standing.

“Dr. Konig is employed by an independent entity contracted to provide medical services at various medical facilities on Maui, including Maui Memorial Medical Center,” Maui Health clarified.

“Maui Health takes these concerns and the safety of its patients very seriously and will cooperate with authorities as appropriate.”

Prior to moving his wife and two small children to Maui, Gerhardt worked as an anesthesiologist at UPMC and an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh.

Arielle worked as a nuclear engineer and worked for Westing House before moving to Hawaii.

Ben Brown, a former neighbor of the couple in Pittsburgh, told KDKA that he was shocked by the news, considering how friendly the couple was.

“My first connection with them was when they put up in a hot tub on the back deck. I was helping them with the structural aspects,” Brown recalled.

“I wasn’t close with them but I never saw any problems.”

Despite the couple’s seemingly perfect relationship and profitable careers, Sanoe Ka’aihue, executive director of service provider Women Helping Women, said none of that matters regarding domestic violence.

“When they say they [domestic violence incidents] don’t discriminate, it’s absolutely true,” Ka’aihue told Island News

“I mean, you’re talking about two individuals who are high earners, and yet, DV is still prevalent.”

Ka’aihue reported a recent increase in violent incidents between couples.

Maui women Janine Kara Sturgeon, 43, and Cynthia Moore, 68, were both allegedly killed by their partners in recent months.

“A lot of what we’re seeing is more lethal than we’ve seen in the last few years,” Ka’aihue said.
