Why Gwyneth Paltrow is everything Meghan Markle wants to be

The world is not in a happy place at the moment so a big thank you goes to Gwyneth Paltrow for giving us all a good laugh. La Paltrow has posted a video on Instagram which showed her making breakfast: in marked contrast to a certain duchess who is her neighbour in Montecito, Paltrow is make-up free, wearing pyjamas and working in her own kitchen rather than renting one out. The only false note is the breakfast itself, which is fried egg, bacon and biscuits.

I cannot help but feel that this is a rare treat for the willowy Gwynnie; my guess is that black coffee and a lot of fresh air is the usual fare. Either way, this video had been seen by some as mocking dear old Meghan, although in a bid to quell rumours of friction between them the pair have subsequently appeared together in a Q&A clip on instagram to say all’s well. But it really has come to something when the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow – who was born into Hollywood royalty and who’s been involved with, among others, Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck – appears down-to-earth in comparison.

But as has often been pointed out, Gwynnie is not just an actress: she is an absolutely brilliant saleswoman who really has had a great deal of success in running her own business.

I have just had a look at the Goop website: it’s selling a sweater for $1,250. If you can get people to cough up that for something the moths might go after, then you’re doing pretty well.

Nor did Gwyneth stop there. She was also pictured wearing an apron emblazoned with the legend, “My father’s daughter”; we all know about Meghan’s relationship with her own estranged dad, while Gwyneth was devoted to her own father Bruce and was devastated when he died very young, at just 58.

Gwyneth, you can’t help but feel, is everything that Meghan wants to be: a stunningly successful film actress with an enviable lifestyle and a happy homelife to boot.

If, when Gwyneth Paltrow first appeared on the scene in the 1990s, you’d have told me she was going to turn into a fantastic role model, I’d have laughed. But she certainly has.She works hard, doesn’t complain and while it was sad that her first marriage broke down, she handled the break-up admirably.

Everyone laughed at the phrase “conscious uncoupling”, but not only did it show a degree of self-awareness, it also took into account how her children would be feeling.

And this year, she will be co-starring with too-hot-to-handle much younger Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme.

She’s also, at the age of 52, still something of a sexpot. You go, girl, and enjoy the ride.
