The University of Alabama says that one of its doctoral students has been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), adding to the growing list of foreign students targeted by the Trump administration.

“The University of Alabama recently learned that a doctoral student has been detained off campus by federal immigration authorities. Federal privacy laws limit what can be shared about an individual student,” the university said Wednesday.

The student, Iranian national Alireza Doroudi, was identified by The Crimson White, the university’s newspaper. Doroudi, who has a student visa, was detained on Tuesday, and it is not clear what if any charges he is facing.

The Hill has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.

Most of the other foreign students the Trump administration has targeted have been involved in the pro-Palestinian protests in some way. The administration is seeking to make use of a law that says the secretary of State can deport a noncitizen that threatens the foreign policy of the nation against these individuals.

“Our fears have come to pass. Donald Trump, [border czar] Tom Homan and ICE have struck a cold, vicious dagger through the heart of UA’s international community,” the University of Alabama College Democrats in the statement.

Students at several high-profile universities across country have been detained amid the Trump administration’s crackdown. Doroudi’s arrest came the same week as that of Rumeysa Ozturk, a Ph.D. student at Tufts University.
