Denmark can't defend Greenland, former ambassador says

() United States Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance are changing their itinerary for their visit to Greenland on Friday amid expected protests from the country’s citizens.

This comes after President Donald Trump called multiple times for the U.S. to take control of Greenland.

Carla Sands, the former ambassador to Denmark and Greenland under Trump’s first term, said discussions about America doing this will probably be held at the highest level.

She said, “It’s necessary for the security of the United States” and its allies in Europe.

“Greenland cannot be taken by a foreign adversary, and it’s very vulnerable,” Sands said on “Morning in America” Thursday. “It is our responsibility to defend it, to secure it, and also to develop it. If the Greenlanders will agree to that, I think once they associate the idea of more prosperity, they’re going to be very excited.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
