JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, Ga. () — A crash took the lives of four people, including two toddlers, in Jeff Davis County on Thursday night, according to Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
At approximately 7:40 a.m. on March 27, state troopers responded to the area of Georgia State Route 27 (GA 27) at Eureka Church Road after reports of a traffic crash, a GSP spokesperson said.
Upon arrival, troopers reportedly discovered a gray Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling north and in the right travel lane, a tractor-trailer was traveling south.
The Avalanche then reportedly struck the tractor-trailer head-on after it entered the right southbound travel lane, resulting in the tractor-trailer maneuvering in the west ditch, catching fire, according to preliminary reports from GSP.
After impact, the Avalanche overturned onto its driver’s side and caught fire, GSP said.
The GSP spokesperson reported that Nicholas Coleman, 27, of Hazelhurst and his two children, a one-year-old and two-year-old died upon impact in the Avalanche.
The semitruck driver, Jason Goodwin of Eglin, S.C. also died in the crash.
This is a developing story and will provide updates as soon as they are available.
