CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Friday was the first time Central Illinois hit 80 degrees this year. And even with winds peaking above 50 miles per hour, people took advantage of the warm weather.

Parks were one of the most popular spots, but they weren’t just for those living in Champaign. One family from out of state was glad to see the change of weather.

“We’ve been waiting for some good weather and finally got some,” said Aaron Ochs. “So, we got out and finally put on some shorts.”

“Back in Columbus [Ohio] it’s sort of like, one day it’s really warm, one day it’s really cold, but it’s generally cold,” said Owen Forloine. “So, it’s nice to get out and sort of enjoy the weather.”

They added the cherry on top with some sweet treats at Jarling’s right across the street from Hessel Park.
