Countries that have issued travel advisories for US

() Several European countries have recently issued travel advisories against the United States.

Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have announced travel advisories.

The reasons vary, but Denmark, Finland, France, and Germany referred to the United States’ requirement that individuals entering the country choose either male or female on ESTA and visa applications.

Canada

The northern neighbor of the U.S. last updated its advisory on March 21, noting the risk level of its southern ally as low, urging citizens to take “normal security precautions” while inside the United States.

As of Apr. 11, Canadians will be required to register with the U.S. government if staying in the country beyond 30 days.

Should this not occur, like in many countries, penalties, fines or misdemeanor prosecution are possible.

Denmark

On March 20, the Nordic nation wrote on its Ministry of Foreign Affairs website that those who identify as transgender should speak with the U.S. embassy in Copenhagen before visiting.

“If your passport has the gender designation X or you have changed gender, it is recommended to contact the U.S. embassy prior to travel for guidance on how to proceed,” the advisory read.

President Trump issued an executive order to restore “biological truth” across the United States upon his return to the White House with several policies that “recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male.”

Finland

In a travel advisory on March 14, Finland suggested U.S. authorities may “refuse entry” should citizens have a different gender marker on their passport that differs from their biological sex.

France

Similarly, France’s travel advice included that trans-identifying individuals should email the U.S. consulate should they have questions about entry or visit the U.S. Department of State FAQ page to complete the DS-160 form.

The advisory also adds it is “strongly recommended” to consult with the U.S. embassy in France for “any changes or new measures adopted.”

Germany

Germany’s last update came on March 21, echoing what other countries have said, that its citizens “must state either ‘male’ or ‘female’ on ESTA or visa applications.”

Should German citizens have further questions, they should consult the U.S. embassy in Germany.

United Kingdom

On Mar. 20, the U.K. updated its advice on travel to the United States, noting harsh consequences may come to those who violate immigration laws.

“The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules strictly,” the office said. “You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules.”

Citizens were also told to “comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry.”
