The hits just keep coming for the Braves, and not in the good way.

Reynaldo López will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and is expected to miss at least a couple of months, according to MLB.com.

The news comes a day after the Braves placed him on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

The procedure will be done to determine if there is any structural damage in the shoulder.

Braves manager Brian Snitker mentioned that Julio López had a positive session during his side throwing practice recently. However, after the session, López expressed concerns about his shoulder and requested to have it examined. Snitker stated that there appears to be inflammation in López’s shoulder, and he is scheduled for further evaluation to determine the extent of the issue. Snitker is currently awaiting the results of the assessment.

López struggled during his first start of the season when he gave up three runs on nine hits and three walks in a loss to the Padres.

Bryce Elder has moved into the open spot in the Braves’ starting rotation.

It’s another unlucky turn for the Braves, who have started the season with five straight losses, the latest being a 6-1 win to the Dodgers on Monday.

The news about López comes a day after the team found out that Jurickson Profar had been suspended for 80 games for testing positive for Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) and violating MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

López is coming off a career season in which he posted a 1.99 ERA over 26 appearances — 25 of which were starts — and was selected to his first All-Star Game.
