A person dies in a fiery truck crash in Sydney’s western suburbs

One person has died after a serious two-truck crash near Campbelltown in Sydney’s south-west.

NSW police were called to the scene at about 6.30am, following reports of a serious collision southbound on the Hume Highway, Blair Athol.

One truck ignited and was engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived.

Commuters captured confronting footage of the roaring flames as they passed the truck this morning.

Fire and Rescue NSW officers attended and extinguished the blaze.

One driver died at the scene, NSW Police reported this morning.

The driver is yet to be formally identified.

A second driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for “various injuries”. The driver was then taken to hospital.

A crime scene has been established at the scene of the collision and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced inquiries.

All southbound lanes of the Hume Motorway have been closed at Blair Athol, near Campbelltown, and traffic has been diverted.

Local roads are being impacted and drivers are urged to visit the Live Traffic NSW website for more information.

NSW police have called on any witnesses with information about the incident or dash cam or CCTV footage of the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
