In a landscape where diversity and inclusivity are often viewed as contentious, Disney Jr. is championing the concepts in their new series, RoboGobo.

RoboGobo is a new series that preschoolers will unquestionably love that boasts a myriad of color and lovable characters, mixing a sense of adventure and fun with with life lessons in each episode.

The series is created by Chris Gilligan, who also worked on Disney Jr.’s T.O.T.S. and Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends. Gilligan told Parents.com in a recent interview that he wanted to create a show based on “the idea of rescue pets rescuing other pets, like a superhero team.”

So just what is the premise of this new soon-to-be fan favorite? Well, according to Parents.com, check out a brief synopsis below. 

Set on the futuristic utopia of MetroPet Island, the show follows five adopted pets—a bunny, dog, bird, cat, and turtle—who are given super-powered robotic suits by kid inventor Dax. It also features a range of comical villains who terrorize the island, including a guinea pig called Gimme Pig who enjoys taking what’s not his.

Some of the most important lessons that children will take away from the series include: teamwork and creative thinking in problem-solving. Additionally, as a result of the series’ healthy depiction of a Black family, a positive lens is cast on diversity.

“Dax is a product of his amazing, loving parents. His mom, Professor Millie, is an inventor and city planner. And his dad, Dr. Vaughn is the MetroPet Vet. Each of his parents gives back to the community. And their respective disciplines–inventing and pet care—live in Dax in a big way, inspiring him to combine these interests in his invention of the Robo-Suits, and his team of adorable pet heroes,” Gilligan explained in his interview.

In terms of inclusion, the show will also highlight the fact that everyone is different and differences are something that should not be frowned upon, but celebrated.

“Our lead Dax has a limb difference,” Gilligan told the outlet. “Aspirational heroes come in all shapes, sizes, and abilities, but superheroes have not always been represented this way before.”

RoboGobo will air on Disney Jr. and Disney Jr. On Demand, in addition to Disney+ and YouTube.
