A Georgia woman was criminally charged for allegedly leaving her newborn baby in a trash bag on Monday.

Alaynah Rappuhn, 22, reportedly went to a Macon hospital for excessive bleeding after leaving a trash bag on a back porch. Rappuhn’s boyfriend, who took her to the hospital, returned home and heard noises coming from the trash bag on the porch — leading him to discover a baby boy wrapped in towels, according to WSB-TV.

Rappuhn is believed to have given birth nine hours before she went to the hospital. WMGT reported that Rappuhn did not tell her boyfriend she was pregnant, nor did she disclose it to hospital staff.

The baby boy remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Rappuhn, who was released from the hospital on Tuesday, was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit a felony murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. She is jailed without bond.
