A North Carolina man who was recently released from prison is behind bars again after police said he killed his mother and teenage brother.
Da’Ron Donta Jenkins, 25, was back at his mother’s home in Wilson, North Carolina, for only a few days before police responded to “an unknown type call” at the residence on March 31, according to reporting by WTVD, a local ABC affiliate. When officers arrived, they found Dana Jenkins, 50, and her son Daryn Cox, 15, dead at the scene. Police said the suspect in the alleged killings is Dana Jenkins’ son and Daryn Cox’s brother.
According to court documents obtained by WITN, a local NBC affiliate, Da’Ron Jenkins was released from prison about a week before the alleged incident took place. He had served time in state prison for larceny of firearms and several convictions for the breaking and entering of vehicles.

Juanilla Kornegay, Dana Jenkins’ cousin who lived next door to her, spoke to several news outlets in memory of her relatives but also told reporters that something had seemed off about Da’Ron Jenkins upon his return from incarceration. Kornegay told WITN, “I said the look on his face, he’s getting ready to do something. You could see it. The look, it told you everything, but I had no idea you were getting ready to do what you did.”
Da’Ron Jenkins made his first court appearance on April 1 and is being held at the Wilson County Jail without bond. The investigation into the deaths of Dana Jenkins and Daryn Cox is ongoing.
