THIS is the moment a car explodes in flames before a burning man suspected of carrying out the horror blast is seen leaping out of the vehicle.
Chilling footage shows the man stumbling around Amsterdam’s touristic-packed Dam Square as he continues burning in the middle of the busy area.
Flames and smoke gushed from the red hatchback before firefighters turned up and extinguished the man and took him to the hospital.
Police said the driver of the car was suspected of having caused the fire and had possibly done so on purpose.
No injuries were reported, but footage shared on social media showed a man walking around Dam Square with his pants on fire.
Cops said camera footage had shown that the fire was caused by an explosion, which happened among a crowd of people on the busy square.
After the car burned for some time, the man got out of the car and started burning it as he walked around.
A number of cops and ambulances showed up before they sprayed the visibly wounded man with fire extinguishers.
The crowd in the square watched on in horror as the fire spread from his pants to his shirt.
Cops have now arrested the man understood to be a 50-year-old Dutch national.
The cause behind the fire is not yet known.
Locals say they suspect that the man was carrying out a “suicide attack”.
A local security guard said: “He set himself on fire. I saw him get out of the car on fire.
“His pants were hanging around his ankles. He was stumbling around in his underpants. The fire brigade extinguished him. He was then taken away in an ambulance.”
Another shopkeeper added: “He got out of the car, he was already completely on fire.
“He had done this himself. You don’t get such a big fire from a cigarette falling into the car. It was really very intense to see.”
The man could be seen lying on the ground in severe pain as he was doused with even more foam.
A third eyewitness said: “It sounded like an implosion, not a firework bang. A kind of underwater bang. Everyone started running.
“The man was still in it. It was quite unrealistic because he was on fire.
“He was in that burning car and climbed out himself and started walking around like crazy.”
There appeared to be a pro-Palestine protest happening in Dam Square when the man caught fire.
Police said they had sealed off large parts of the square as explosives experts were investigating the car.
Road and tram traffic in the area have come to a standstill.
Last week, a man injured five people near Dam Square in a stabbing rampage.
Police identified the suspect in that incident as a 30-year-old Ukrainian national from the eastern Donetsk region, who prosecutors said had terrorist intent.
Footage showed the moment a Brit tourist chased and tackled down the twisted Amsterdam knifeman.
The tourist, since dubbed the “hero of the Dam”, pinned the knifeman with his knee after a daring pursuit captured on CCTV.
Witnesses said the attacker was overwhelmed by bystanders before officers arrived at the chaotic scene yesterday afternoon.
The man is suspected of five attempted murders or manslaughter with a terrorist motive.
