Jazz Chisholm's chain went flying on swing during Yankees game

The ice briefly melted in The Bronx on Thursday night.

During the sixth inning, when Jazz Chisholm from the Yankees was batting against Ryne Nelson, the Diamondbacks’ right-handed pitcher, one of the chains around the infielder’s neck suddenly fell off.

Whether or not that was the difference in the at-bat or not, Chisholm struck out swinging on the seventh pitch during his turn at the plate.

Luckily for Chisholm, though, that wasn’t the full story for him.

The Yankees star, one of the players using the now-famous torpedo bats, launched a two-run homer in the fourth inning off Arizona starter Merrill Kelly during their 9-7 win over the Diamondbacks.

Chisholm, in his last at-bat in the eighth inning, was wearing a chain, for what it’s worth.

Once a Diamondbacks prospect, Chisholm has gotten off to a torrid start during his first full season in The Bronx.

After 24 homers a season ago, Chisholm already has four in the young season, crushing two in the series finale against the Brewers over the weekend.

“We fire torpedoes all around the park, you feel me?” Chisholm said after Sunday’s win over Milwaukee. “We hit the ball all around the park. We play defense, we got speed, we do it all. Over here, it’s about scoring runs and winning games. Our goal — it’s not a realistic goal — but it’s to win 162. We go out there to win every game. So that’s our mindset and that’s how we’re going to keep going.”

He also got into a spat with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who called for the torpedo bats to be banned from MLB.

Chisholm wrote on X in response.

“Okay explanation the barrel is bigger and within mlb regulation!” Chisholm wrote. “For the idiots that say it’s moved to the label you’re an idiot! Nobody is trying to get jammed you just move the wood from the parts you don’t use to the parts you do! You’re welcome no more stress for y’all!”

Whether it’s the bat or not, Chisholm has an impressive 1.162 OPS to start the year.
