SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — In an effort to quickly find more information on the vandalism of a Springfield hotel, Crime Stoppers is upping the reward money for tips.

Officer Chris Jones, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard counties, said they are still assisting the Springfield Police Department with the criminal damage case at Wyndham hotel. On March 27, officers responded to the hotel at 700 E Adams St. around 7 a.m. for a criminal damage report.

The officers were told about an unknown suspect who had cut a main water pipe, torn out electrical units and damaged the computer system that controls the operations of the building. This forced the hotel to close, and it’s expected to stay closed for 90 days. The damage to the building is estimated to be millions of dollars.

Originally, Crime Stoppers was offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for tips that lead to an arrest. They have now increased that reward to $4,000 for any information that leads to an arrest in this case due to the severe impact the closure of the hotel has on the community.

Anyone who knows anything about this incident or that can identify anyone responsible is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 217-788-8427, submit a tip on their website or use the P3 mobile app.
