Frito-Lay recalls some Tostitos chips over undeclared allergen

(NEXSTAR) — Frito-Lay is recalling a small number of bags of its Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips over concerns they may accidentally contain some nacho cheese tortilla chips — which contain milk and may pose a risk to those with milk allergies or sensitivities.

While fewer than 1,300 bags of chips are affected, the potential for serious or life-threatening allergic reactions means it’s important to check your Tostitos bags. Customers with milk allergies or sensitivities should discard the product immediately, Frito-Lay says.

The recall only affects 13-ounce bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips which were available to purchase as recently as March 7. UPC codes 28400 and 52848 indicate potentially affected bags.

Frito-Lay notes, however, that the bags involved must have both a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of “20 MAY 2025” in addition to one of the following manufacturing codes (it’s important to note that the “XX” represents any number between 30 and 55):

  • 471106504
  • 18 13:XX or 471106505
  • 85 13:XX or 471106506
  • 85 13:XX or
  • 471106507
  • 85 13:XX

The chips were sold in grocery, convenience and drug stores in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Frito-Lay says no allergic reactions have been reported so far. If you have questions or concerns, you’re advised to contact Frito-Lay online or by calling (800) 352-4477 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST Mondays-Fridays.

In a statement, Frito-Lay added: “Unless a consumer has a dairy allergy or sensitivity to milk, this product is safe to consume.”
