'Step Brothers' clip goes viral as "Trump destroys the economy" with tariffs: "It is absolutely, 150% your fault"

The economy has been in panic mode since President Donald Trump introduced a slate of new tariffs, which could spark a major trade war and recession.

But it’s impossible for the internet to take anything seriously these days, so it comes as no surprise that TikTok users have turned to a clip of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly scream-crying in Step Brothers to cope with the political fallout.

The Step Brothers clip shows the brothers Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (Reilly) sitting around the dinner table with their respective parents — played by Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen — and Derek (Adam Scott) and Alice, Brennan’s brother and sister-in-law. The scene in question is when Brennan and Dale have an absolute meltdown after hearing their step-parents were getting a divorce.

Except in this viral clip, titled in bold letters “As Trump Destroys The Economy…,” Dale and Brennan represent Trump voters crying about the tariffs.

“Is this our fault?” Brennan asks through his blubbering tears.

While his mother, who is labeled as “Fox News,” tries to comfort the brothers by telling them, “It is not your fault.”

However, Derek, who is supposed to represent a “Gen X Democrat,” doesn’t miss the chance to gloat and tells them, “I gotta say I could have called this one.”

But it’s their father who, as “an anti-Trump Republican,” really lets them have it. “Let’s cut the shit!” he yells. “It is directly your fault. It is absolutely, 150% your fault!”

Even “Marjorie Taylor Greene” makes an appearance in the clip when Kathryn Hahn begins wailing and joins the brothers in their uncontrollable crying and is labeled on screen as the outspoken Republican.

In a twist, Adam Kinzinger, a former congress member who was part of the Jan. 6 committee, shared the clip on X, where it garnered 1.5 million views. “Who did this?” he asked. In any case, he did not appear to disagree with the clip’s analysis.

You gotta admit, it’s a pretty effective summary of the national response to this week’s news!

Step Brothers is streaming now on Netflix.
