Manchester United will have to fend off interest from a number of Premier League rivals in pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, a report has claimed.

It was revealed last month that United had added Simons to their list of summer targets as they prepare to rebuild their attacking line, with Kenan Yildiz of Juventus another big-money option for the Red Devils.

The race to sign Simons has taken a huge turn as Fabrizio Romano has now revealed United are not alone in their admiration of the 21-year-old.

Indeed, it is claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all continue to track Simons, having explored moves last summer before he extended his loan with Leipzig – a move which was ultimately turned permanent in January.

Sparking the renewed interest in Simons could be his relatively affordable price tag. The report states he could be available for between €70m-€75m (£58.4m-£62.6m).

While clearly a significant sum, that figure is well below the valuations usually handed to proven young stars like Simons, who shone in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven and now has 18 goals and 19 assists in 69 games for Leipzig.

A natural attacking midfielder who is comfortable on the left and often used on the right, Simons provides the sort of versatility which is incredibly important to managers looking to fill a number of holes in their squad.

Simons may not be the only Leipzig star heading to the Premier League as striker Benjamin Sesko is a target for most of England’s elite and is keen to make the move this summer.
