Retail theft in Victoria has jumped by almost 90 per cent in the past year, costing businesses an estimated $9 billion.

Retailers are pushing for more police resourcing and strengthened laws.

“Unfortunately, for those CBD retailers that have been hit, time and time again, not just with retail crime, but also just lower foot traffic,” Fleur Brown from the Australian Retailers Association said.

Christian Dior on Collins Street was hit twice in a fortnight and Louis Vuitton at Crown was also raided, with thieves making off with expensive handbags and jewellery. (Nine)

“There’s no one silver bullet, but we do need to see all of those areas addressed.

“We’re in discussions with the Victorian government about doing more.”
