Australians who are not currently enrolled to vote in the 2025 federal election have just hours left to enrol.

All Australian citizens 18 years and older are legally required to enrol and vote in the election on May 3.

Those who have yet to enrol or who need to update their details must do so by 8pm tonight (local time) or risk being fined for not voting at election time.

“The fastest way to enrol is by completing the online enrolment form on the AEC website,” Australian Electoral Commissioner Jeff Pope said.

“Don’t delay and join the 18 million Australians currently on the roll.”

They can also fill out a printed enrolment form at any AEC office.

The completed form can be returned to the office or uploaded to the AEC website, but it is too late to post a completed enrolment form to the AEC.

Once the 8pm deadline has passed tonight, eligible Australians will not be able to enrol to vote or update their details online or in person.

What politicians have been up to on the election campaign trail

The AEC confirmed this morning that Australia’s enrolment rate will hit a record high this election, with about 98 per cent of eligible Australians expected to be enrolled.

Since the election was announced on March 28, the AEC has received more than 400,000 new enrolments and updates at a rate of about 40,000 per day.

Even with more to come before the cut off tonight.

“This federal election will have the best democratic base for participation our country has ever had,” Pope said.
