Democratic challenger raps Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman's support of Trump's tariffs

The Democratic candidate vying for Nassau County executive criticized the Republican incumbent Bruce Blakeman for supporting President Trump’s global tariffs, which have resulted in a significant decrease in the stock market.

Challenger Seth Koslow noted that Blakeman appeared at Trump’s press conference on his tariff rollout in DC last week

The levies, Koslow said, even target American ally Israel.

The Nassau County legislator expressed dismay, stating, “It’s reprehensible that Bruce Blakeman applauded when President Trump imposed random tariffs on Israel. Such hypocrisy! If he truly had integrity, he would stand by our vital ally, Israel, and urge President Trump to reconsider his inflationary actions.” The legislator made these comments to The Post.

Emphasizing the nonpartisan nature of the issue, the legislator added, “This is not a matter of political affiliations but a concern for our 401(k)s. While at the White House, Bruce Blakeman supported these tariffs. Why isn’t he prioritizing our well-being?”

But Blakeman dismissed the criticism and defended Trump’s tariffs to spur job creation.

“I continue to stand with organized labor and the working men and women of Nassau County in supporting job creation and economic security here in America,” Blakeman said Sunday.

“While we all share concerns about the stock market, we will be a stronger and better America if more jobs are held by Americans and more goods are manufactured here.”

Stock futures dropped dramatically Sunday evening with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 2.1% and the S&P 500 plummeting about 2.5% while the Nasdaq fell almost 3.1%.

The general election for the county seat will be held on November 4.
