Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.) was hospitalized but stable after an “emergency medical event,” according to a Monday press release from his office.

“Congressman Donald Norcross was traveling over the weekend and suffered an emergency medical event likely related to his gallbladder,” the statement in the Monday press release reads. “He was admitted to UNC Rex Hospital in North Carolina on Sunday and is in stable condition, where he is receiving exceptional medical treatment.” 

The statement also said that the New Jersey Democrat has been “in good spirits and wants to thank” members of North Carolina hospital’s staff because of “all their work on his behalf during his stay.”

“When the Congressman is medically cleared to fly, he will be transferred back home to Cooper University Health Care in the coming days to complete his recovery,” the statement continued.

South Jersey political heavyweight George Norcross III, who recently faced a criminal indictment alleging racketeering, is the brother of Norcross. The indictment was thrown out earlier this year, on the grounds that allegations did not come to the height of coercion or extortion that prosecutors alleged.

The news of Norcross’s hospitalization comes as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) looks toward a Wednesday vote on a Senate-approved budget resolution that would unlock a process that Republicans are seeking to use for the passage of tax cuts, border funding and energy policy. 

However, the measure has faced growing opposition among hard-line House conservatives, with at least 10 saying they will vote against it.
