BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Blount County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a press conference Tuesday after two parents were charged with their son being shot.

According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at UAB St. Vincent’s Blount on Friday on a report of a 4-year-old boy who was shot in his leg and arm. His parents, who didn’t contact law enforcement, took him to the hospital.

The boy had surgery and is recovering at Children’s of Alabama as of Monday afternoon. The BCSO stated the boy’s parents are Cassandra Lutz and Andrew Corrie. They were each charged with first-degree reckless assault, chemical endangerment to a child, 10 counts of cruelty to animals and six counts of failure to bury/burn livestock Monday.

The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant for the residence the boy lived in, which is in the Sugarland Lake area. The BCSO stated the residence had no running water and no operational bathrooms. The Blount County Department of Human Resources was notified. The sibling child and the victim were removed from the residence and put into protective custody.

The sheriff’s office stated it found unsecured firearms, drug paraphernalia and “suspected marijuana” in the residence. The BCSO announced it discovered the residence had 24 live snakes, six dead snakes and a juvenile crocodile. Those animals were found in containers accessible to anyone inside the residence. Blount County Animal Control took possession of the animals.
