A 4-year-old boy from Jacksonville went missing and was later found dead in a retention pond, police said. They do not know how he went missing at this time.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 4-year-old boy who went missing in the Baymeadows area of Jacksonville Tuesday night was found in a retention pond and has since died, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Police have confirmed the child was autistic.
The child was found at 6:52 p.m. Tuesday. Police say a K9 unit found the child around 1,000 feet from his home, in a retention pond on Star Drive.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
They are still investigating how the child went missing.
JSO Lt. Blinn said that officers are trained to search in nearby bodies of water when someone goes missing. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get there in time tonight,” he said.
