Competition shows have become a very common part of reality television. Dating competitions have become extremely popular. These shows usually have one person who must choose among a bunch of contestants battling for their affection. The most talked-about reality dating show would have to be The Bachelor. However, there are always new variations on this concept.
The series Farmer Wants a Wife has recently entered its third season. While the show is fairly new, several of the farmers have already been making waves. From Colton Hendricks’ clear vision for his future to Jay Woods’ story of resilience to John Sansone’s maturity, these men have stood out during this latest season.
Colton Hendricks Is Very Clear About What He Wants And That Will Make His Choice Very Simple
According to People, “Colton is a 28-year-old divorced dad of a two-year-old son. His upbringing on a farm instilled in him the value of hard work, as he spent his early years there alongside his dad. Love, family and ranching are Colton’s top priorities.”
However, this doesn’t mean it has been easy for the new reality star to find this. “Colton knows exactly what he wants and has been having a tough time meeting someone ready to be a mom,” his bio continues. “With his whole family close by and gorgeous property to raise his dream football team-sized family, Colton is looking forward to meeting a partner who knows what they are signing up for.”
Viewers got a chance to see the results of these requirements firsthand in one particular episode. While fans saw Farmer Matt Warren, Farmer Jay Woods and Farmer John Sansone decide to keep the five women in the competition, things on Colton’s end were very different.
Colton spoke to Taylar one-on-one, leaving the rest of the women to talk amongst themselves. Taylar said that her “heart just skipped a literal beat” when they first met during the speed round dates, explaining that she “saw something” in Colton. However, Colton didn’t seem to feel the same way, as he chose to send Taylar home.
“I’ve been thinking about me and you. Um … it’s just, I’ve got so much stuff going on in my head. It’s just hard to …,” Colton told her, as he paused before admitting, “I’m a realist. I like to look at the facts when it comes to things.” “There was a girl or two at the speed date that I kinda thought that too about the heart kind of skipping a beat,” Colton revealed. “I feel like I’ve got a really good connection. I do not want to string you along and think, like, if it comes down to you and another girl, I’ve only looked at her.”
Taylar responded by saying, “I respect for you to be, like, rip the Band-Aid off, ‘Taylar, you’re not it.’ .. It’s fine. I just wish you would like want to get to know me more but because you have your eyes on someone, I hope you just don’t lead anyone else on.” The two then gave each other a hug before Taylar walked away. She also made sure to say goodbye to the rest of the women and decided to warn them about Colton before she left.
“He decided that I’m going to go home,” Taylar told them. “He was like, ‘It’s really hard because from my very first conversation, I had eyes and my heart skipped a beat for one girl.'”
This left all the women stunned and speechless, which didn’t get interrupted until Taylar officially said her goodbyes. Hope said that she “was not expecting that tonight whatsoever” and believed if Colton already knew who he had his heart set on, then the other women were “wasting [their] time.” Keeley said she was “taken off guard,” and said that “every single one of us deserves an explanation for that comment.”
Jay’s official bio reads, “Despite not being initially perceived as a typical ‘cowboy,’ Jay grew up in the country of Alabama on his grandfather’s horse farm surrounded by family — farming, hunting, kayaking, fishing, and anything else that kept him outdoors surrounded by animals.”
Jay had aspirations bigger than farm life. Unfortunately, he would have to rethink his future when those goals came to an end. “When Jay’s original dream of becoming a pro athlete while playing football at Duke was crushed due to an injury, he began to reflect on the times in his life that made him the happiest to determine his next steps,” the bio continued.
“Choosing to return to his roots was easy, and he’s never looked back. While Jay felt pressure playing college football, it’s nothing compared to the massive pressure his mom’s been putting on him lately asking about grandbabies! Jay’s looking for a kind-hearted, refined, confident woman who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty on the farm!”
When speaking to FOX 54, Jay talked about why farming was such a passion for him and how it was an easy path to slip back into once his football career ended. “My family always grew up farming,” he said. “I was always around it. We actually got a family compound. It’s called Woods Lane, not too far from me as well. So I grew up raising, you know, hogs, raising chickens, growing corn and different other crops and things like that. Football just was such a big part of my life. Once I got out of that space, I had to find another passion and it was farming.”
Jay was on his high school football team. “Florence High School, born and raised,” he said. “I got it tatted on me! I went to Michigan first. I played up there for three years under Coach Harbaugh, graduated. Then I transferred to Duke, with Coach Cutcliffe and then graduated there.”
He went on to say that his competitive side made him want to pursue a football career. “I think any elite competitor wants to make it to the highest level, which is NFL, and that was definitely my goal,” he said. “But you know, injuries happen you know shoulder, head, knee, everything like that and you start looking at the big picture.”
Jay continued, “Like, I love this game, but am I willing to sacrifice my body where ten years from now or five years from now, I could hardly walk or lift my shoulder up, or even think right? So I had to make that tough decision to hang up the cleats. But, I’m glad I did it because I wouldn’t be in the position I am now if I didn’t.”
Jay has also said he has a head for business, which came from his time in college. “Duke, Master of Management Studies, at the Fuqua School of Business,” he revealed. “So yeah, I am a businessman at the end of the day. You know in this world you have to be able to have some type of income come in and you want to make it make sense. With the operation we have a cow-calf operation. So basically what that is, you let the cows have calves, and you let those calves get big and you take them down the sale barn and get the money.”
John Sansone Showed Viewers That He Can Handle Rejection Very Well
John’s official bio reads, “John spent his youth alongside his five siblings, learning everything he could about farm life from his grandfather. To this day, he feels incredibly lucky to be in the presence of such an incredible farmer on his great-grandfather’s land and dreams of making his family even prouder by finding a partner.”
The bio continues, “At the end of the day, when the hard work is done, he prioritizes studying for his law degree, going on woodland drives with his grandfather, daytime fishing and nighttime frog gigging. John is eager to find his life partner so he can continue the farming legacy and his grandfather can bear witness to the next, most important chapter of his life!”
Rejection is something John showed viewers he was strong enough to handle, even though he didn’t expect to face it on his first 24-hour date. During his time with Samantha Riehl, John believed everything was going well. He described her to Us Weekly as a “little bit of a firecracker,” going on to say that his first impression of Samantha was “a very good-looking girl.”
“Then when we were sitting there on our first speed date, she kind of, like, gave me a, I dunno, different perspective on who I was dating there,” John remembered. “Everybody else seemed very eager to impress me or was very shy. She seemed the opposite. It was definitely a unique situation there.” John went on to say that he was “intrigued,” which is why he was surprised at how things turned out.
Samantha told John during their date, “I don’t ever want to feel like I have competition. I don’t ever want to feel threatened.” John was understandably surprised, since that was the whole purpose of the show Samantha had signed up for. He then asked Samantha, “Are you actually looking for a guy?” she replied, “Yeah, of course.”
Samantha told John that her ideal man was “one that is unlike anyone else I have ever met.” John then leaned in for a kiss, but Samantha pushed back. “I cannot kiss you on camera, there is a reason for that,” she told him. “I’m going to marry someone someday, it might be you, it might not be you and I do not want something of me kissing another man on television. If it’s you, we don’t have anything to worry about.”
John told Samantha he “thought this was going a different way,” but she further explained herself. “Those are my values and that is what I believe and I don’t want that of me on the internet anywhere because I want my husband to have more than that,” she told him.
John ultimately told her that he respected her wishes and beliefs. He later told Us Weekly the whole thing surprised him. “Every signal under the sun said it was time to kiss her,” he said, reflecting on that moment. “But some people — to each their own. I obviously respect their decision in the sense that everybody has their own opinions and stuff.”
John wouldn’t reveal exactly how this moment would affect Samantha’s chances of being his final choice. “It is a reality dating show, so we’ll see if that works out,” he said. During the episode, Samantha told the cameras, “I think romance and intimacy is something that you can’t rush, it takes time. That’s just a boundary that I have and I will not be crossing it.”
