DENVER (KDVR) Around 600 lbs. of marijuana was reportedly stolen from a Colorado State Patrol evidence container in Arapahoe County.

On April 4, CSP said an evidence technician was conducting a property walkthrough of an evidence parking lot. The location of the facility was not released, as CSP said it could “compromise the integrity of investigations and endanger evidence and personnel.” However, the state patrol did confirm it was in Arapahoe County.

During the walkthrough, the technician found damage to a “secured alternative gate away from the facility’s entrance.”

After further investigation, CSP said a secured trailer was broken into and approximately 600 lbs. of marijuana was stolen from inside. The state patrol said the marijuana was scheduled to be destroyed.

CSP said the stolen evidence was not involved in any active court cases, therefore, no cases are impacted.

Following an initial investigation, CSP said the suspects first came to the site on April 1, where they reportedly used a power tool to remove a lock on the gate and the secured trailer.

“Since this incident, the Colorado State Patrol completed an initial review that identified gaps in the evidence facility’s security processes. Security camera system checks and exterior property walkthroughs have been increased to identify security issues faster and ensure evidence integrity,” CSP said in a press release.

The state patrol said a comprehensive internal investigation is also underway to determine if any protocols were violated.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call CSP.
