AUGUSTA, Ga. ()– Our community hospital, Piedmont Augusta, has the largest group of colorectal surgeons in the region. And they want everyone to be screened appropriately to prevent colorectal cancers.

Piedmont’s Chief Medical Officer is colorectal surgeon Dr. Barry Jenkins. He says while colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths, it’s also one of the most treatable, if caught early.

In the video above, he shares general facts about prevalence of colon and rectal cancer, the rising incidence in younger patients, and screening options and guidelines.

The 2025 Jernigan Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Monday, May 5th with an opening celebration on Sunday, May 4th! Proceeds benefit Piedmont Augusta’s colorectoal cancer program.

Registration is now open. For more information, contact Piedmont Augusta Foundation at 706.667.0030 or email foundation@piedmont.org.
