Alleged school bashing leaves 14-year-old without two front teeth

EXCLUSIVE: Another story of disturbing bullying and alleged violence has emerged at the same Perth school, leaving a 14-year-old boy without his two front teeth.

The teenager, who can’t be identified because of his age, told 9News the alleged attackers thought he was hiding a vape in his pocket but really, it was a chocolate bar.

He was allegedly held at knifepoint, his two front teeth knocked out, and school shirt covered in blood but when his mother arrived at Aveley Secondary College in Ellenbrook, the police hadn’t been called.

“They basically told me, ‘Well, that’s up to you to contact the police’,” she said

The 14-year-old was allegedly punched in the face in the public school toilet block last June.

“[It was the] worst pain I’ve ever felt … I was drooling, like, it’s just uncontrollable blood,” he said.

His mother said it was “any parent’s worst nightmare”, “to turn up to a place where you think your child would be safe and find them completely covered in blood”.

“It was absolutely mortifying,” she said.

The school only found one of his teeth.

“It’s still scary to me, like how someone can just do that to another human being, I don’t understand it,” the boy said.

The mother and son spoke out after another boy was allegedly coward-punched by a fellow student at a shopping centre last week, breaking his jaw.

“It gave me absolute shivers down my spine just to hear and to know that it’s still happening,” she said.

A round table with the local MP, police, shopping centre and schools took place on Monday but Education Minister Sabine Winton was yet to meet with the school principal.

“Any incident of violence is concerning to me and let’s be clear – our government has a zero tolerance towards violence no matter where it is,” Wilson said.

” … I’m very confident that supports are being put in place to support those schools.”

This is the third time 9News has reported on assaults involving Aveley Secondary College students over the past week.

Interviews were requested twice with the director general of the Department of Education but specific questions remained unanswered.

The department said the school had been proactive in addressing bullying, coaching staff to improve behaviour management and teaching strategies.

It had also been given additional resources to support student wellbeing including extra psychology hours.

The 14-year-old has not been in school since the incident.

His mother said she was disappointed with the department’s efforts to help her find alternative schooling.

“If I didn’t get the police involved, nothing else would have happened,” she said, affirming that the school expected her son to return “like nothing had happened”.

“So when the education minister says that they’re doing everything that they can – it is absolute crock, absolute crock.”

A 15-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.

Meanwhile, the young boy whose jaw was broken last week was later released from hospital.

His father said it was time for the department to take its head out of the sand and start taking a no-nonsense approach.
