WASHINGTON () An American Airlines flight carrying United States lawmakers was struck by an airplane Thursday at Reagan Washington National Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and lawmakers on board.

No injuries were reported, and the plane was on the ground at the time of impact, according to the agency.

‘The plane shook violently’: New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer

New York Congressman Nick LaLota posted to X from inside one of the jets.

“Serving in Congress has come with some once in a lifetime experiences… like just now while stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully, everyone is ok! (And ⁦@RepGraceMeng is handing out grapes!),” he wrote.

New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer told , “We were sitting on the runway” when the incident occurred.

“Apparently a piece of the wing broke off,” he said. “The plane shook violently.”

Gottheimer said he did not see the actual incident because he was sitting on the other side of the plane.

‘Safety is our top priority’: American Airlines statement

The National Transportation Safety Review Board says they are aware of the incident but had no further information.

“American Eagle flight 5490, operated by PSA Airlines, made contact on a DCA taxiway with American Eagle flight 4522, operated by Republic Airways. Safety is our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for their experience,” a statement from American Airlines read in part.

The incident comes after a January midair collision between a passenger jet and an Army helicopter at Reagan Washington National Airport killed 67 people.
