MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a suspect in connection to suspicious letters that were delivered to government officials.

Special agents assigned to ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation responded to the Alabama State House at around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday to investigate three letters that were addressed to members of the Alabama House of Representatives. According to ALEA, each letter contained pornographic images. A fourth letter was sent to Governor Kay Ivey’s office.

ALEA special agents immediately identified a person of interest in their investigation.

John Watson, 54, of Dothan, was arrested and formally charged with four counts of Dissemination of Child Pornography. Watson was booked into the Houton County Jail. He has no bond.

Watson is a former Driver License Examiner assigned to ALEA’s Driver License Division. He was placed on mandatory leave on Wednesday, but he resigned on Thursday in lieu of termination.

This investigation is ongoing.
