BRANSON, Mo. (KTVI) Google Trends showed a variety of topics being searched in Missouri on Thursday sports, weather, the lottery and one specific question: Did Casey Anthony open a day care in Branson?

A Facebook post has been circulating and gaining traction among Facebook users from a page titled “Branson Area Breaking News.” The post includes a picture of Anthony and a lengthy caption discussing the “grand opening ceremony” of her new “Bright Futures Learning Center.”

The post states, “Parents in the community have mixed feelings about Anthony’s involvement in childcare, given her controversial past. However, many expressed hope that her experience and determination will contribute positively to the lives of the children she will serve.”

Anthony was at the center of everyone’s attention in 2008 after her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, was reported missing. Suspicious circumstances surrounding Caylee’s disappearance and ultimate recovery nearly half a year later led to Anthony being charged in her death. While the jury did not find Anthony guilty of murder, she was sentenced for giving false information to police.

The Facebook post was made on April 8, and while some knew instantly it was a myth, others believed the news and criticized Anthony.

The biography section of the Branson Area Breaking News page states that it is a satirical news organization and a parody account. Therefore, the news of the day care is not true.

This isn’t the first time a myth like this has spread. In 2016, Snopes posted a fact-checking article debunking the alleged rumor that Anthony was opening a day care in her home state of Florida.

While Anthony has mostly remained out of the public light since her release from jail in 2011, her name resurfaced recently after she joined TikTok in March to “reintroduce” herself as a legal advocate.
