All of the six people onboard were part of the Franklin family. Three are in the hospital Friday.

FOLKSTON, Ga. — Family members have identified the six people onboard a small private plane that cashed in Folkston, Georgia on Thursday.

Brenton Franklin, 32, his wife, Baylee Franklin, 26, and their two children Carolina, 3, Charleston, 1, were also onboard.

Brenton’s parents, Michael Franklin, 55, and Vicky Franklin, 56, were also onboard. Michael was flying the plane.

Family told First Coast News that the two toddlers are uninjured.

Brenton Franklin and his parents are still in the hospital. Family said they are recovering from various injuries but will be okay. Brenton was in surgery for a broken leg Thursday night.

Charlton County Sheriff Robert Phillips confirmed Thursday that a small plane had overturned after a hard landing at Davis Field, the small airport in Folkston.

He said the plane rolled and hit a tree. The crash caused a fuel spill that then caused a small fire.

A local pilot, Michael Robinson, described helping to pull the family out of the plane.

“It was a frantic, horrible mess. They were going through hell,” Robinson said.

Robinson had his wife call 911 and he quickly sprung into action.

“By the time I got here, another fella had got inside the airplane, was trying to pull him out. It was smoking. It was burning on the outside of the airplane. The son was in there, his leg was broken and he had lacerations to his face, but he was hobbling back out, could barely get out,” said Robinson, “I thought he was just getting out.  I helped pull him out the rest of the way by his arms backwards away from the airplane as he fell on the ground. He was up in there hobbling around trying to help get his father out too.”

First Coast News has reached out to the FAA for more information about the cause of the crash.
