Gen Zers interview act goes viral for ‘unprofessional’ stunt

A British boss has been left bemused and baffled after a Gen Zer insisted on looking like a breakfast plate during her job interview – no, seriously.

Aidan Cramer co-founded AIApply, a mobile application that employs artificial intelligence to assist individuals in crafting cover letters, submitting job applications, and ultimately landing interviews.

The boss shared a clip of a wild job interview over Zoom with a Gen Zer who was using the filter to appear like a breakfast plate during their chat.

At first, Cramer assumed it was a mistake.

“Nice to meet you! I’m not sure if you know but there’s a bit of animation on your face,” he explains.

During the exchange, the individual’s identity was obscured by a breakfast plate adorned with eggs and toast, making it challenging to ascertain her identity. She mentioned that she was feeling unwell and opted for this unconventional filter.

This unconventional situation caught Cramer off guard, causing him to fumble over his words as he attempted to delicately convey the reason why it was not feasible for the interviewee to maintain anonymity behind a breakfast plate.

“I’m not sure we are going to be able to continue. It is not very professional … ah … is there any chance you could turn it off?” He asked.

The breakfast plate candidate, tried to meet him halfway and said, “I can use a different one if you want?”

Cramer said, “Argh,” and then “um,” and then the potential employee switched, so the filter made her a giant strawberry.

“Is this better?”

This is where the clip ends, so it’s unclear what happens from there, but the boss posted it on social media and has amassed over 30,000 likes.

“She showed up to a job interview like this,” he wrote and added the dead skull emoji and the hashtag Gen Z.

Someone immediately asked if it was real, and Cramer replied, “unfortunately,” it was. Then, a big debate kicked off and people were torn.

Some thought the Gen Zer was being amusing, others felt she’d crossed a line, and some were more hung up on the fact that Cramer had recorded the interview and posted it on social media.

Someone wrote, “This is so Gen Z,” another claimed the woman was an “instant hire”, someone made a pun and said they were “cracking up,” and another they were “crying” while watching the clip.

“I just want to live in a world where this is acceptable,” one admitted, but someone replied and said, “No, this is not normal.”

Another argued it was acceptable, but “toxic people” just don’t want to embrace it and chaos ensued because people were arguing over whether you could look like a breakfast plate while trying to secure employment.

“I’d give her a job straight away she’s funny,” someone else said.

“She’s just egg-cited to start the new role,” one quipped.

When someone commented and asked, “So, normally, having your phone out to record interview candidates is professional?”

The CEO replied and said, “How could you not?”
