HBO‘s Emmy Award-winning post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us recently made its highly anticipated return to Max this month with a brand new season full of fresh horrors and challenges for Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).

The Last of Us takes place in a version of our world that’s ravaged by a fungal infection that turns people into zombie-like creatures, with catastrophic effects on human society as a whole. Season 1 saw hardened smuggler Joel tasked with safely escorting immune teen Ellie across a pandemic-ravaged United States to help create a vaccine. The Last of Us: Season 2 takes place five years after the events of the previous season, with things now tense between Joel and Ellie as they settle into their new lives in Jackson, Wyoming, with Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and Ellie’s friends Dina (Isabela Merced) and Jesse (Young Mazino).

Despite being set in the U.S., the show’s first season was actually filmed in different parts of Canada. Is the same true of The Last of Us: Season 2? Find out below!

Where was The Last of Us: Season 2 filmed?

Although The Last of Us: Season 2 is set in Wyoming, it follows in the footsteps of the previous season, with filming locations across Canada. Production used Vancouver and Nanaimo in the province of British Columbia to stand in for scenes of a war-torn Seattle, Washington.

And while Season 1’s Jackson, Wyoming, scenes were filmed in Calgary, Alberta, Season 2 recreated the Jackson moments in Britannia Beach, Mission, Fort Langley, and Langley, all of which are a part of British Columbia. However, Calgary was still utilized for some other locations featured in Season 2, as were the snowy hamlet Exshaw, Alberta, and the city New Westminster, British Columbia.

The Last of Us: Season 2 is available to stream on Max for $9.99/month. One episode out of seven is out right now, with episodes releasing every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
