ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — U.S. Senator Mark Warner and other leaders biked a portion of the Creeper Trail on Monday as recovery efforts continue following Hurricane Helene.

Warner said it is important that recovery funding continues to flow into the region and urged people to experience the outdoors that places like Damascus and Abingdon have to offer.

The section of trail between Abingdon and Damascus has reopened,

“You know, the Creeper Trail is open, Damascus is open, Abingdon is open,” Warner said. “Please come enjoy some of the best places in southwestern, and frankly, some of the best places to ride in the country.”

Warner said governments on all levels have the resources needed to ensure Southwest Virginia’s outdoor recreation can be rebuilt, and he believes it will be bigger and better than ever.
